Marije’s practice focuses on climate risk & sustainability and she is a specialist on environmental and spatial planning law. She gained in-depth legal and business experience through various roles at one of the largest industrial companies of the Netherlands since 2008. In 2020-2024 she was Permitting Strategy and Regulatory responsible in one of the largest industrial transformation projects in Europe.

In 2024 she joined Houthoff as a Counsel and brings a unique combination of the cliënt perspective, a broad understanding of business functions as well as unique project experience in an industrial environment. Marije is able to combine legal and business strategic angles with a practical hands-on and result-driven approach and is a trusted boardroom advisor. She advises and litigates for the industry, project developers, investors and government bodies, and has extensive experience in liaising with authorities, such as Ministries and Provincial Executives. Marije has a unique experience in stakeholder management and participation in large projects, which often is an obligation under the Environment and Planning Act (Omgevingswet) since 1 January 2024.

Marije has built and maintains a large network in the industry and energy-sector, as well as in the national and regional government. She was an attorney at AKD and Loyens & Loeff from 1998 to 2008.
