DIY giant Bauhaus gets green light for Amersfoort branch

German DIY chain Bauhaus received the go-ahead for its plans to open a DIY megastore including a garden centre and drive-in facilities in Amersfoort's Vathorst neighbourhood. Groups of competitors had challenged the municipality's spatial planning decisions that allow Bauhaus to build this branch.
The Council of State's Administrative Jurisdiction Division upheld those decisions almost in full. In its opinion, the municipality had adequately demonstrated that the development met a need and would not create unacceptable vacancy levels or traffic problems. After years of preparation, the plans may now finally be carried out.
