Netherlands Labour Authority conducts record number of accident investigations
23 September 2024

According to the Workplace Accidents Monitor, there were a total of 2,448 accident investigations conducted by the Netherlands Labour Authority (NLA) last year. Small companies in agriculture, construction and industry were particularly found to have a higher incidence of accidents than average. While an unexpected accident at work cannot be prevented, it is essential to conduct a thorough investigation and develop an improvement plan. In certain cases, an employer is legally obliged to report an accident to the NLA.

Since 1 January 2023, the NLA has been able to instruct employers to prepare a report of the circumstances of the accident, according to set guidelines. By analysing the accident and developing an improvement plan, further accidents can be prevented. Other unwanted consequences, such as criminal prosecution and administrative fines, can also be prevented with proper employer reporting.

On our website, you will find more information and some tools for preparing a sound employer's report. Our experts, Huib Lebbing and Leontine Cobben, from the Houthoff HSE Team are available to provide further information and advice.
