Pro bono
Our commitment to social responsibility is demonstrated by the considerable value we place on doing pro bono work for organisations and people that pursue or support the public interest. Our aim is to enhance access to legal assistance and to make our knowledge and expertise available to organisations and people that lack the resources to obtain such services.
Houthoff’s pro bono work focuses mainly on organisations that aim to bring about an inclusive society with equal opportunities for all. We see it as our duty to make an active contribution to a world in which a variety of backgrounds, preferences and appearances is viewed as a strength rather than a source for discrimination.
Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation
Houthoff's Lex Mundi membership allows us to maintain close ties with the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation (LMPBF). LMPBF connects social entrepreneurs who have legal questions, wherever they may be in the world, to one or several of the 160 Lex Mundi firms so that they can obtain pro bono assistance. In the spring of 2021, Houthoff received two Lex Mundi Pro Bono awards: the Foundation Award for Excellent Service and the Pro Bono Foundation Award.
The Foundation Award for Excellent Service: This award is presented annually to Lex Mundi members who support the Foundation's work by offering pro bono legal services to help reinforce the global social entrepreneurship movement, and to improve the lives of the poor and the disenfranchised.
Pro Bono Foundation Award: This award was presented for work undertaken on behalf of Thaki, a Dutch foundation that distributes donated laptops with educational software to refugee children in the Middle East.
